Getting Ready for a Long Distance Move

A Long Distance Move can be daunting. It might seem to be overwhelming, trying to make all the preparations, finding how much it is going to cost, how you will get there, and most of all, if your moving to a place you've never been before, you won't know where anything is!

There are a lot of things to keep in mind when planning for a large move. There is the decision of hiring a professional moving company or trying to make the move on your own. You might be intimidated by the possible prices that will be involved in hiring professional movers or renting a moving truck. One of the first and maybe easiest ways to cut costs is to go through your home and find anything that you don't need anymore and hold a yard sale for some extra cash, or even donate all of the goods that you don't need any more. Not only will this reduce the amount you have to pack and unpack, but also most likely save you money. The less you need to bring with you, the smaller moving truck you need to rent right? That can be a huge money saver just in itself! Not to mention the money you will save in buying moving materials.

Another crucial step when deciding on a moving company (which I highly recommend) is to find the lowest possible quote. It is generally a good idea to find several professional movers and receive a quote from each one. But keep in mind, if you receive a "too good to be true" price, it most likely is. It is important to do research on the moving companies you are looking at, read previous customer reviews. Ask them any questions that you may have. If the moving company takes the time to thoroughly understand and answer your questions, which is generally a good sign. And keep in mind that most honest movers will be competitive with the competition. This will also help you judge whether the price is obviously "too be good to be true" or not.

It is also a good idea research your new location. Visit city websites and find maps of the local area. Check out where the local restaurants, shopping areas, and entertainment are located. Taking the time to plan ahead and make necessary arrangements will not only save you money, but also make it much less stressful.
